NESN's Jerry Remy and radio announcer Joe Castiglione have both been nominated for the Baseball Hall of Fame's Frick Award, honoring the game's best announcers, according to ESPNBoston.com.
Fans can vote beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. on the Hall's Facebook page. Balloting ends on Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. The top three fan selections will earn three of the 10 spots on the final ballot for the award. A committee will select the winner in early February.
Remy missed much of the 2009 season after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He returned to his rightful spot in the booth alongside Don Orsillo at the end of August and continued to broadcast home games for the remainder of the season.
Castiglione is in his 30th year of broadcasting and his 25th consecutive year in the Red Sox radio booth.
To be nominated for the award, a minimum of 10 years of continuous major league service is required. The committee urges fans to vote based on longevity, continuity with the club, honors and popularity with the fans.
By those criteria, Remy has a pretty good shot.
