Can the Jets stop their current free fall?
They're going to try. And they got the process started on Monday by waiving cornerback Ahmad Carroll and signing linebacker Kenwin Cummings from the practice squad, according to The Associated Press.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan reasoned that Carroll is expendable because Marquice Cole — an undrafted free agent — has earned a spot on special teams, an area in which Carroll had excelled.
"I think Cole has really taken his role," Ryan told the AP. "I think he's done an outstanding job. That's not a slight to [Carroll]. It's just that I think this guy won the job and it's a chance for us to get Kenwin Cummings up."
Carroll was inactive for the last two weeks after leading last year's squad with 26 special teams tackles. In total, he racked up 30 special teams tackles in 22 games.
On Sunday, the Jets lost to Jacksonville on a field goal as time expired. Since beginning the season 2-0, they have lost two in a row and five of their last six.
