Matt Light Works at Left Tackle While Sebastian Vollmer Sits Out

The impressive play of rookie left tackle Sebastian Vollmer led to much speculation that the 25-year-old from Germany could unseat veteran Matt Light.

Vollmer, however, suffered a head injury last Sunday against the Jets, and Light, who has missed five games with a knee injury, got in some work at left tackle on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald.

Also of note in offensive line news was that Nick Kaczur, who suffered at least some leg pain when Tom Brady fell on him during the game against the Jets, gave up some reps in favor of Mark LeVoir, who played at left tackle for a stretch on Sunday.

The offensive line is always important, but given the expected noise level at the Superdome, it will take on an added level. Against a potent defense like New Orleans', false start penalties could be killers for the Pats, so they may have worked as many combinations as possible to build a comfort level.

Vollmer temporarily left the game last week but returned in the second half.

Also in injury news, running back Fred Taylor was seen walking through the locker room, Rapoport wrote.

"I'm zipped up for a while, man. Sorry," Taylor told the Herald when asked to talk.Taylor has been out since Week 4 after undergoing ankle surgery.
