Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein kept himself busy on Wednesday, acquiring infielder Tug Hulett from Kansas City for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The 26-year-old played in 15 games for the Royals in 2009 and went 2-for-18 with one RBI. He appeared in five games at second base, he appeared in two games in right field, and he played third base, shortstop and left field one game each.
For most of 2009, Hulett was a member of Kansas City's Triple-A Omaha affiliate, where he hit .291 with 11 homers and 53 RBIs in 99 games.
Hulett was selected by the Rangers in the 14th round of the 2004 draft. In 45 career major league appearances with Seattle and Kansas City, he owns a .194 average with one homer and 3 RBIs.
Hulett is the son of former MLB infielder Tim Hulett.
