The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital will honor veterans at Fenway Park on Veterans Day. The groups will announce the new "2010 Run to Home Base" festivities, which will raise money and awareness for the Home Base program. The program will help United States veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.

In honor of Veterans Day, more than 200 volunteers will walk from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) to Fenway Park as part of a 5K trek to raise awareness for the new Home Base Program and to announce a new grassroots fundraiser called “Run to Home Base."

Walkers will leave MGH in small groups between 9:30 and 10 a.m. and are expected to arrive at the ballpark through Gate B (Van Ness Street across from the Fenway High School) between 10:30 and 11 a.m. They will be received at Fenway by U.S. Senator Paul Kirk, retired U.S. Army general Fred Franks and PFC Vincent Brodeur, formerly of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, who suffered a traumatic brain injury during his tour of Iraq. Members of the Red Sox ownership and staff from the Red Sox Foundation will also be present to receive the walkers.

The Red Sox are also offering free admission to Fenway Park tours for veterans and up to three of their family members throughout the day on Veterans Day. Tickets can be obtained from the Red Sox ticket office on Wednesday by veterans with appropriate identification.
