The Boston Globe is reporting that Red Sox right fielder J.D. Drew had surgery on his non-throwing shoulder last week.

Drew underwent the procedure to help alleviate inflammation he was experiencing in the second half of the season, according to the report.

The 34-year-old hit .279 to go with a .914 OPS in 137 games for the Red Sox in 2009 — his third season with the club. His 24 homers were the most he's hit in a season since belting 31 for the Braves in 2004 while his 68 RBIs have been the most runs he driven in since his career-high 100 RBIs in his final season with the Dodgers in 2006.

Although he was apparently experiencing the shoulder problem, Drew hit .340, smacked 12 homers and drove in 28 RBIs in his final 48 games from Aug. 1 to Oct. 4.
