Notre Dame Fires Head Coach Charlie Weis Charlie Weis won't get the chance to finish out his contract at Notre Dame, or improve on his 6-6 finish to the 2009 season. Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick decided enough was enough with Weis by firing the five-year head coach, the New York Daily News first reported on Monday.

Weis took over as head coach at Notre Dame prior to the 2005 season and posted a 35-27 record in his five years with the team. Several reports have indicated that at least six NFL teams are interested in pursuing Weis as an offensive coordinator.

Weis declined halftime and postgame interviews last week against Stanford, and was said to have cleaned out his office the Thursday before the team left for the final game of the season.

The Fighting Irish finished the regular season with four straight losses to Navy, Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Stanford. The team is scheduled to vote on Monday to decide whether they want to participate in a bowl game this season.
