The Dodgers pitcher reportedly shot himself in the leg at a shooting range, according to Diamond Leung of Diamond Notes. The report says the incident occurred in Nicaragua and that the injury was not deemed serious. Another report said that Padilla was accidentally shot by his body guard.
Though it’s still unclear what exactly happened, Padilla’s agent told ESPN.com that the pitcher was “fine.”
Padilla, 32, was given new life as a Dodger this season after being released by the Texas Rangers in August. The Dodgers picked him up, and Padilla went 4-0 with a 3.20 ERA as the Dodgers won the NL West. He made two starts in the postseason, going 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA. He is a Type B free agent heading into the 2010 season.
