As of right now, the 8-4 Eagles are most likely headed to the Emerald Bowl on Dec. 26, according to The News & Observer (of Raleigh, N.C.). BC finished second in the ACC's Atlantic Division in 2009.
Considering the Eagles were slated to finish near the cellar of the Atlantic after losing their quarterback, their coach and their top defensive player prior to the start of the 2009 season, the Emerald Bowl looks like a pretty good option. It's a step down from a third straight trip to the ACC championship game and a possible trip to the Orange Bowl (or another New Year's Day bowl), but it's something.
The unfortunate news is that BC may end up facing No. 23 Stanford. At 8-4, the Cardinal have beaten Washington, UCLA, Oregon, USC and Notre Dame, among others.
It's not looking good for the Eagles, but hey — they lost to 6-6 Vanderbilt in the Music City Bowl last year. Anything can happen.
Georgia Tech and Clemson will meet on Saturday with the ACC championship at stake. One of them will head to Miami for the Orange Bowl, and the other will earn a bid to either the Chick-fil-A Bowl, the Gator Bowl or the Champs Sports Bowl.
Virginia Tech and Miami are expected to earn bids to the remaining two bowls listed above.
