In his first season with the Eagles, Kuechly led several important defensive stands that made the difference in BC's season. Kuechly came was part of the Eagles' three straight goal-line stands against Florida State, he stopped Maryland quarterback Jamarr Robinson on fourth-and-inches in a six-point game and helped contain Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour with an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
Kuechly made 10 or more tackles in eight straight games to lead the ACC in tackles per game. He is ranked second nationally in tackles per game to New Mexico linebacker Carmen Messina (13.50).
Kuechly, one of seven players receiving votes for Defensive Rookie of the Year, was the choice on 29 of the 40 ballots.
