The NHL legends aren't the only ones who have the chance to skate once the ice goes down at Fenway Park.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino, in conjunction with Sun Life Financial, the NHL and the Boston Bruins, is offering Boston families a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to skate at Fenway after this year's Winter Classic between the Bruins and the Flyers.
Boston residents will be able to skate for free on Sunday, Jan. 3, and on Sunday, Jan. 10. The City of Boston will administer 3,000 free tickets at various locations on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 9-11 a.m.
“The Bruins’ continued success has revived Boston’s hockey heart, and skating on the rink at historic Fenway Park is going to be a fantastic way for thousands of kids and families to ring in the New Year,” Mayor Menino said. “I’m proud that the City has been able to partner with the NHL and Sun Life Financial to bring this one-of-a-kind spectacle to Boston. There’s no better city than ours to host the NHL Winter Classic and Sun Life Frozen Fenway, and I encourage residents to take full advantage of all the free and fun festivities surrounding the events.”
Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a maximum of four tickets per family. The tickets will specify which date and time the recipient will be able to skate. Proof of residency is required for participation.
