What will it take to get Jason Bay to ditch the Red Sox for the Mets?

Another year added onto a four-year, $63 million offer.

According to the New York Post, the Mets' offer to Bay is "very heavily backloaded," meaning that in the first year of the proposed contract, Bay will make about $10 million, and by the time the final year rolls around, he will make closer to $20 million.

Right now, the Mets' contract very closely resembles the four-year, $60 million offer Bay received from Boston earlier this year. Bay rejected that offer, and unless New York adds a fifth year, Bay is likely to reject this one, too.

The Post reports that the Red Sox are "adamant" about sticking to a four-year deal rather than a five-year deal.
