After establishing some pretty high standards last season, Thomas was just a bit off for the Bruins through the first few months of the schedule. If the last week was any indication, though, Thomas could be poised to return to his Vezina-caliber self.
Thomas came up huge for the B's, shutting out the Ottawa Senators in a game that the Bruins desperately needed to win. The victory snapped a four-game winless streak for the Bruins as Thomas picked up his fourth shutout of the season but first since Nov. 12. The 35-year-old from Michigan turned away 29 Senator shots as the Bruins leapfrogged Ottawa in the standings.
Two nights later, Thomas was not spectacular, but he was good enough, as the Bruins turned away the Thrashers 6-4 at the TD Garden. Thomas made 25 saves, though none were more memorable than the glove save he made on a streaking Ilya Kovalchuk.
With the wins, Thomas improved his record to 9-8-5 with a 2.50 GAA and .915 save percentage as the Bruins have climbed into second place in the Northeast Division.
