After trading away Melky Cabrera earlier this week, it appeared to much of Red Sox Nation that Brian Cashman and the Yankees were setting up to sign either Bay or Matt Holiday to take over left field at Yankee Stadium in 2010. On Wednesday, however, Cashman told the Star-Ledger that the team isn't planning on adding a player of that caliber.
"It won't be a big-name situation," he said. "I can promise you that."
But that's not to say that Cashman and the Bronx Bombers are happy with their current outfield situation.
"We traded two outfielders in Austin Jackson, who was waiting in the wings, and Melky Cabrera, who was a performer for us on our championship run," he said. "There's some vulnerability there."
Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher are the team's remaining everyday outfielders while Brett Gardner has yet to prove himself.
