Third period, 1:40, Rangers 3-1: Thomas goes to the bench to give the B's an extra attacker.
Third period, 3:44, Rangers 3-1: Dennis Wideman answers the call as the defenseman slaps one through traffic and past Lundqvist from the point to break up the shutout and get the B's on the board.
It's Wideman's third of the season as Chara and Krejci get assists.
Third period, 4:18, Rangers 3-0: The Bruins are looking sluggish with five minutes to go. If they want to make another late comeback like they did on Monday, now would be a good time to start.
Third period, 8:28, Rangers 3-0: I bet they could hear that loud ding in Charlestown. Lundqvist just had one ring off the post behind him as the Hunwick and the B's were centimeters from getting on the board.
Third period, 12:00, Rangers 3-0: The Bruins had a few good chances with the man-advantage but Lundqvist stood strong. Ryder had a nice wrist attempt from the circle while Chara got a nice, low slapper from the point on net.
Third period, 13:55, Rangers 3-0: The Garden went from being a din dome in the first to a library here in the early third. A Thornton-Brashear bout would look good for the home crowd right about now.
Third period, 16:00, Rangers 3-0: The Rangers killed off the B's power play with ease to gain even more momentum here in the third.
Third period, 18:28, Rangers 3-0: The Bruins have a great chance to get that goal back as they go on the power play due to a delay of game.
Third period, 19:23, Rangers 3-0: The Rangers jump out with a quick third period goal to put the B's down by three. Christensen had a spinning wrister from the slot with the B's defenders just looking at him as he beat Thomas near-side, top shelf.
It was Christensen who lit the lamp on Monday night against Boston, too.
Second intermission, Rangers 2-0: The Rangers took complete control of the game in the second frame as they outshot the B's 21-3 — sneaking one of those shots by Thomas to make it a 2-0 lead.
Second period, 2:01, Rangers 2-0: New York was inches from its third tally as the loose puck couldn't get poked through. Thomas was unable to locate the biscuit but the B's had bodies and body parts everywhere, makingit impossible for the Rangers to get a clean shot off.
Second period, 4:32, Rangers 2-0: The B's are really shooting themselves in the foot as they get whistled for too many men on the ice. It's their eighth too many men call already this season — these guys are either really eager or struggling with math. I'll go with eager.
Second period, 9:41, Rangers 2-0: Just when Boston kills off yet another penalty, the Rangers storm back with another goal — this time off the blade of Dubinsky, who assisted on Del Zotto's first period tally. A costly turnover in the B's corner sets them back another goal halfway through the contest.
Second period, 11:07, Rangers 1-0: It's good to see BU's Matt Gilroy getting a lot of burn on the Rangers' power play. For Bruins' fans, it's even better seeing him not help the Rangers score on said power play.
Even without their penalty kill leader Bergeron, the Bruins are holding their own during the NYR PP.
Second period, 12:25, Rangers 1-0: Steve Begin gets called for roughing after body-slamming an opponent into the crease after another fantastic Thomas save.
Second period, 12:50, Rangers 1-0: Sean Avery gives Thomas a nice snow facial after the B's keeper lunged on a loose puck. Of course some post-whistle shoving ensued with Morris and Higgins exchanging stiff-arms.
Second period, 14:35, Rangers 1-0: The Rangers get another power play chance as Satan's stick gets suck under Drury's skates as he entered the B's zone.
Second period, 16:30, Rangers 1-0: The B's are inching closer and closer to sneaking one past Lundqvist as the offense is really starting to click. Paille almost batted one out of mid-air from the slot but the Rangers' keeper made an acrobatic stop to keep the shutout intact.
Second period, 19:00, Rangers 1-0: Finally some good news on the injury front as Paille has returned to the mix.
First intermission, Rangers 1-0: The first horn marks the end of the opening frame as the B's head into the locker room down 1-0.
Boston outshot the Rangers 11-7 and looked very strong in the first 20 minutes. However, a mental lapse allowed Del Zotto and the Rangers to take the early lead despite a fine showing by the home team. If it weren't for the impressive play of Lundqvist, the Bruins could easily be ahead, as the home team appears to be controlling this game.
Paille, who took a shot off what appeared to be his foot or ankle, did not return to the contest and his status remains uncertain at the moment.
First period, 1:01, Rangers 1-0: The B's offense is starting to wake up as they're pelting Lundqvist with shot after shot here in the final minutes of the first. The Rangers' netminder is putting on a saves clinic however as Boston is unable to get anything by.
First period, 2:24, Rangers 1-0: McQuaide and Boyle wrestle each other to the ice after a whistle as the tension between these two rivals continues to build.
First period, 4:50, Rangers 1-0: Lost in the penalty shot excitement was an apparent injury to Daniel Paille, who blocked a shot that led to Sturm's breakaway.
Paille was down by the B's bench luckily and was able to get off quickly with the help of Thornton who was trying to pick him up over the dash.
First period, 14:50, Rangers 1-0: Lundqvist comes up with the big save as Sturm is now 1-for-5 in his career on penalty shots.
Sturmy tried the quick release shot from the slot rather than a deke and Lundqvist put a leg pad on it.
First period, 5:10, Rangers 1-0: Penalty shot for Marco Sturm, who was hooked down from behind on a shorthanded breakaway.
First period, 6:17, Rangers 1-0: Blake Wheeler gets whistled for a hook, putting the red-hot Rangers' power play on the ice for the first time.
First period, 10:00, Rangers 1-0: A timeout called by the Rangers bench. Odd timing for the TO, but head coach John Tortorella certainly knows what he's doing.
First period, 12:04, Rangers 1-0: Michael Del Zotto, the Rangers' rookie defender, beats Thomas 5-hole with a nice move from the left side to put New York up 1-0.
Dubinsky and Girardi pick up the helpers on the game's first tally. The Bruins forwards — notably Milan Lucic — were caught snoozing in the Rangers zone to give the visitors an odd-man rush.
First period, 16:29, 0-0: Just moments after the Thornton-Brashear fight, Chara and Gaborik, tho fellow countrymen who will be teammates next month in the Olympics, just had a nice shove match it in front of Thomas after a whistle.
Although such a fight is highly unlikely to happen, it's good to see these Bruins getting nasty in the early going.
First period, 17:59, 0-0: Shawn Thornton and Donald Brashear just threw down the mitts — but as Jack Edwards said, it probably won't be the last time we see these two tangle today as it wasn't the most thrilling bout to say the least.Brashear has a couple inches and a couple dozen pounds on the B's bruiser but Thornton got him down before the stripes could get in and separate the two.
First period, 18:38, 0-0: Johnny Boychuk through it on net to Steve Begin who nearly tipped it past Lundqvist. The B's saw a lot of success recently by simply tossing the puck on net and getting lucky.
1:09 p.m.: Rene Rancourt runs off after another stirring rendition of the National Anthem and we're just about ready to get underway.
12:41 p.m.: Timmy Thomas getting the nod today. The Tank has a 3-5 career record against the Rangers with a 2.60 GAA.
He was splendid in his last start against the NYR on Nov. 1, stopping 22-of-23 shots. The offense couldn't back him up however, as he took the 1-0 defeat thanks to a second period Marion Gaborik tally.
11:19 a.m.: The Bruins welcome in the Rangers for an afternoon affair at the TD Garden in Boston's North End.
On Monday night in the Big Apple, the Rangers squeezed by the B's 3-2 thanks to a last minute goal by Christopher Higgins. Down 2-0 in the final frame, the B's popped a pair of goal to tie it up before Higgins' late tally.
It was announced on Saturday that Marc Savard will be out 3-4 weeks with a Grade 2 partial MCL tear in his right knee.
