The Bruins are actively seeking trade partners, but general manager Peter Chiarelli isn't planning on taking any desperate measures.
Stuck in a five-game losing streak, the B's brass is admitting the need to shake things up.
"I'm looking every year [to make trades], but maybe more so this year because of the way we performed," Chiarelli told ESPNBoston.com. "Having said all that, we want to be in the playoffs and we want to succeed in the playoffs."
Boston has a lot to offer heading into the March 3 deadline, including a pair of first-round picks in the 2010 draft — one of which is the pick they received from Toronto in exchange for Phil Kessel in the preseason. The Maple Leafs currently stand as the league's 28th-ranked team, meaning the Bruins may very well land the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
According to Chiarelli, the B's plan on pressing their luck in the lottery, as that pick is untouchable when it comes to trade talks.
"I can tell you one thing, I'm not trading Toronto's pick [for this year]," said Chiarelli. "I am not trading it. That pick is too valuable."
