The banged-up Celtics need a big lift, and they should get one when 6-foot-11 Rasheed Wallace returns from a sprained foot.

After missing the past three games, Wallace is expected back in the lineup Monday against the Mavericks, The Boston Globe reports.

“[It’s] just a little sprain,’’ Wallace told the Globe. “How I did it, I haven’t the slightest idea. I was playing on it for about two weeks before, finally, the last few minutes in that Toronto game [on Jan. 10] sort of did it.’’

The Celtics also have been without Kevin Garnett, who has been sidelined since Dec. 30 with a hyperextended knee.

Glen Davis and Brian Scalabrine helped offset the loss of the two veterans, but Wallace provides an inside-outside game that neither of them can offer. With Wallace and Garnett out and Big Baby and Scalabrine in, the Celtics dropped home games to the Hawks and Bulls last week.

Garnett still has Friday’s matchup with Portland set as his target to return to the hardwood.
