Earlier in the day, Burke announced that the Leafs acquired star defenseman Dion Phaneuf, along with Fredrik Sjostrom and Keith Aulie, in exchange for Niklas Hagman, Matt Stajan, Jamal Mayers and defenseman Ian White.
Giguere made a name for himself in the 2003 playoffs with Anaheim, registering a 1.62 goals-against average and .945 save percentage in leading the Ducks to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Devils. Though the Ducks lost in seven games to the Devils, Giguere earned the Conn Smythe Trophy for being the postseason MVP.
Since then, Giguere has not been able to recpature that brilliance. This year, he is 4-8-5, while fellow netminder Jonas Hiller is 21-15-2. Hiller signed a four-year extension on Saturday with the Ducks.
Toskala has been inconsistent for the Maple Leafs, posting a 7-12-3 record with an .874 save percentage and 3.66 GAA.
Blake has just 26 points and a minus-4 rating in 55 games for the Leafs this season.
