Hockey Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman won three Stanley Cups as an NHL player, but the Detroit Red Wings legend is hoping his success on the ice translates into success off it as well.
According to ESPN.com, Yzerman wants to be an NHL general manager.
"I would like to run a team one day," Yzerman told the Web site. "But who knows when that will be, if at all."
Yzerman has front-office experience, working in Detroit with GM Ken Holland and assistant GM Jim Nill to build a perennial Stanley Cup contender, and the four-time 50-goal scorer has relished the opportunity to work in Detroit.
"I've certainly learned a lot over the last four years in Detroit from Kenny and Jim," Yzerman said.
The 44-year-old got his big break two years ago when he was named the GM of Team Canada. As the team he built competes for Olympic gold, Yzerman remains focused on the present, but he’s keeping his options open for the future.
"If the right situation and the right fit comes along one day, I would definitely look at it," Yzerman said.
