For the last year Giants Stadium has been staring its replacement in the face.

Soon, the 33-year-old stadium will be no more.

“It’s kind of sad,” Giants fan Brian Moran told the New York Daily News. “Like having to get rid of an old car.

The demoltion of the Meadowlands stadium began Thursday, and the $10 million project is expected to be completed by July. All that will remain is extra parking for the new Giants Stadium.

While its predecessor hosted crowds upward of 80,000 people for Pope John Paul II and a U2 concert, the new Giants Stadium is garnering interest from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to host the Super Bowl in 2014.
