Herman Edwards led the Jets to a 39-41 record in five seasons as head coach. He never led them past the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, and the team never made the Super Bowl during his coaching tenure. But the ESPN analyst believes the Jets are the team to beat in the AFC next season, the New York Post reports.
"I like the way they play defense — talking about giving up 14 points a game," Edwards told the Post. "They run the ball really well on offense, they have a rookie quarterback that got them in the playoffs."
The former coach thinks one position where the team needs help is wide receiver.
"They probably have to get a No. 1 receiver, but they have a good running game," Edwards told the Post.
While Edwards has faith in his former team, Las Vegas oddsmakers are not as confident about the Jets' Super Bowl chances in 2011. Bodog.com puts the Jets at 25-1 to win Super Bowl XLV, right behind the Giants, who are at 20-1 to make the big game.
New York football fans will have to wait and see if 2011 will be the year of an all-New York Super Bowl in Dallas.
