Patriotic Hairdo Goes Awry for Speedskaters Ryan Bedford, Chad Hedrick American speedskaters Chad Hedrick and Ryan Bedford wanted to express their patriotism by cutting and dyeing their hair to match the U.S. flag. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go as planned, according to Yahoo Sports.

As the younger of the two Olympians, Bedford agreed to go first and serve as a guinea pig for the idea. But after the 23-year-old’s red, white, and blue 'do was done, Hedrick took one look and changed his mind.

“He came up with the idea of the shave,” Bedford told Yahoo. “We weren't really thinking it would end up like this. I’m the one who gets to look weird.”

Hedrick’s idea may have been inspired by Saints cornerback Tracy Porter, who shaved the Lombardi trophy into his hair before the Super Bowl and then keyed New Orleans’ victory with a fourth-quarter interception that he returned for a touchdown.

But the final outcome was less successful for Bedford, who finished 12th in the 10,000-meter event on Tuesday.
