The Patriots signed veteran wide receiver David Patten on Wednesday, adding depth to a receiving corps that struggled with injuries during the 2009 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Patten, 35, played for the Patriots from 2001 to 2004, appearing in 54 games and making 44 starts. His best statistical season came with New England in 2004, when the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder amassed 800 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Patten is part of the Patriots’ franchise record for the longest play from scrimmage, as he was on the receiving end of a 91-yard catch-and-run score from Tom Brady against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 21, 2001.
In his career, Patten has recorded 324 receptions for 4,715 yards and 24 touchdowns. Patten last saw NFL action with the New Orleans Saints in 2008, catching 11 passes for 162 yards and one touchdown in five games.
Patten joined the Cleveland Browns in training camp last summer, but was waived before the start of the season and spent the year out of the league.
