The Celtics have been looking for a backup point guard and Augustin, a second-year player out of Texas, would fit the bill. Meanwhile, the Bobcats are in need of a power forward. Enter Davis.
Both players have had their struggles this season. Davis, who is averaging 5.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest, missed 27 games with a broken thumb suffered in a fight with a friend. He also drew plenty of negative publicity when he swore at a fan, prompting coach Doc Rivers to suggest that Davis "has to grow up."
Augustin, who is averaging 5.8 points and 2.3 assists per game, has fallen out of favor with Charlotte coach Larry Brown, according to the Web site.
Because Davis is a base-year compensation player, meaning his trade value is only 50 percent of his actual salary because he received a raise of 20 percent or more before the season, a 1-for-1 trade wouldn't work. So, other players would need to be involved.
Sources told ESPNBoston.com that nothing is imminent.
