Robinson, who recently became a three-time Slam Dunk champion, reportedly would only accept a trade to Boston, the Los Angeles Lakers or the Orlando Magic. The 5-foot-9 guard has veto power over any trade, which scuttled a possible deal to the Memphis Grizzlies. He has had problems with Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni and was benched for 14 games in December. On his return New Year's Day, he scored 41 points against the Atlanta Hawks.
Given the New York club is adamant about clearing as much salary-cap
space as possible in advance of the summer's huge free-agent class,
they will only take expiring contracts back in return. Robinson's
contract is expiring as well, and he is making $4 million on the season.
If such a deal is consummated, Robinson would likely back up point guard Rajon Rondo, with Eddie House sliding over to being the primary backup to shooting guard Ray Allen — unless House is one player to head to the Knicks.
House previously played for D'Antoni in Phoenix and might be a fit. Backup shooting guard Tony Allen and 12th man Brian Scalabrine could also head to New York in a deal.
