Houston's 2009 franchise player, cornerback Dunta Robinson, has been informed that the Texans won't be assigning the franchise tag on him for another season and will not be negotiating a contract with him, a source told the Houston Chronicle.

Robinson made $9.957 million last season as Houston's franchise player but will become an unrestricted free agent come March 5.

The six-year veteran made 64 tackles last season including seven against the Patriots in Houston's 34-27 regular-season finale. The 27-year-old South Carolina alum turned down a $23 million multiyear deal prior to being offered the franchise tag.

The 5-foot-10, 184-pounder has made 397 total tackles to go with 13 interceptions in 84 career games since entering the league as the 10th overall pick in the 2004 draft.
