The New York Giants have a frustrated defensive end who is demanding to start. The New York Jets have a safety who was benched in the middle of the season. Could a trade between the two New York teams be in the works?

According to the New York Post, a rumor has surfaced in which the Giants would send Osi Umenyiora to the Jets for Kerry Rhodes.

The deal makes sense from a football perspective for both teams.

The Giants allowed the third-most points in the NFL this season. The team could use a safety who can make big plays in the secondary.

A talented defensive end like Umenyiora could wreak havoc in Rex Ryan's defense and have a huge season, as Ryan could uses his skills to harass opposing quarterbacks constantly.

Each team may have incentives to make the deal, but the trade is unlikely, at least at this time. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer doesn't think the Giants will be inclined to deal one of the league's premier pass rushers for a safety.

"That's not going to happen," Glazer told WFAN. "Premier pass rushers are a premium in this league. Safeties are not."

Not too many people thought the Jets would advance to the AFC Championship Game while the Giants would miss the playoffs entirely this season.

Let that be a lesson. The trade may seem far-fetched, but anything's possible in the NFL.
