New England running back Sammy Morris wants Josh Reed to be a Patriot next season, but Reed's agent Ben Dogra doesn't see his client catching passes from Tom Brady this year.
According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, Dogra calls the possibility of New England and Reed agreeing to terms "highly unlikely."
Dogra told Reiss that other teams view Reed as the top free-agent receiver on the market, though he failed to name other potential suitors.
New England has eight wide receivers on its roster: Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, David Patten, Brandon Tate, Sam Aiken, Isaiah Stanback and Matthew Slater. However, Welker's torn ACL leaves the Patriots without last season's NFL receptions leader for at least the start of the 2010 campaign.
The Patriots could find wideout alternatives on the trade market or in next month's NFL draft. The team could target former Patriot Deion Branch, whom the Seahawks could make available via trade, or they could consider selecting a receiver like Notre Dame's Golden Tate or USC's Damian Williams in the draft.
