Cambridge Tavern Hosts Bacon-Eating Contest

Cambridge Tavern Hosts Bacon-Eating Contest If you love the smell of bacon, there was no better place to be on Saturday morning than Atwood’s Tavern in Cambridge, Mass.

The bar held the Fourth Annual Atwood’s Bacon Eating Contest this past weekend, and along with the pounds upon pounds of bacon in the house, there were some other bacon-related products that you couldn’t help but try.

The bacon-infused vodka was described rather bluntly by Liam Davenport, the host of the contest.

“It tastes like toilet water and feels like a hangover,” Davenport said.

Well then.
Each competitor had a different strategy, as some liked to rip the bacon up into tiny pieces and others tried to stuff as much into their mouths as possible, hoping it goes down. Their training regiments differed as well. One competitor said she had been chewing gum non-stop for two weeks to build up her jaw muscles.

The big winner was Dan Del Rossi who consumed 10 ounces of the thick, chewy bacon.

“I feel great,” Dan said afterward. “It was meant to be. I’m a fat kid.”

And his prize, you ask? A $50 credit to Atwood’s Tavern, which he promptly spent on a round of bacon shots for him and his friends. What better way to start off the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Dan better be careful though … this kid looks to be a bright, young prospect in the bacon-eating game.
