Marlins All-Star Hanley Ramirez Receives 2009 Batting Title Bling From Owner Jeffrey Loria When a box of cigars or a shiny new automobile just won’t wow your star player, some gold old fashioned bling just might do the trick.

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, who has already shelled out $70 million to Hanley Ramirez in a 2008 contract extension agreement, offered his star shortstop a gift for capturing the 2009 NL batting title.

The new bling around his neck consists of 394 diamonds — equaling about nine carats — with a big teal diamond for the decimal point.

Quote of the day

“I think [The Masters] is a safe haven for him. They’re all chauvinists themselves. It’s a perfect fit. He’ll be welcomed. These people have a fundamental disregard for women. What produced Tiger Woods as we now know him goes back a long way. He always seemed to be super disciplined, an automaton. But once [the scandal] came out, it wasn’t so shocking. This kind of behavior is part of a fundamental misogyny that is displayed by many people in power. We see this a lot with politicians, your Eliot Spitzer … They get to thinking they are above it all. Tiger Woods just outdid everybody.”
–Former Augusta protester Martha Burk, referring to Woods’ return to the PGA Tour at the club.

Be sure to stay away from this NESN.com reader if you see him at the TD Garden.

“Milan Lucic, is one of the toughest players that the Bs have an thats exactly, what they need. Put him an Shawn Thorton, out there together an every one would play it straight. either guy could be an enforcer on any other team. Cooke should be out for the season if the commissioner had any guts. Look @ Bergeron a few yrs ago, out for the season just a few yrs ago. you would think the Bs would say enough, is enough. These Bs players are going down to much for cheap shots. I love my Bs but today i dont know if i would go to a game live, cause that would happen an i would go berserk. go Bs.”

Too bad the Bruins didn’t hang onto Patrick Eaves when they briefly had him on the roster last summer — they could have used his epic shootout skills. But don’t laugh too hard B’s fans — at least he didn’t pull a “Dennis Wideman.”
