The Chargers drafted Cromartie in the first round (19th overall) of the 2006 draft. He was named a first-team All-Pro in 2007 after leading the NFL with 10 interceptions. He has picked off just five passes in the last two seasons, though.
Cromartie, 25, has one year left on a five-year, $12.5-million deal he signed as a rookie. He also has plenty of off-the-field issues, as NJ.com notes. He has been named in five paternity suits in the last three years and has seven children living in five states.
The Jets had been searching for a cornerback to pair with Darrelle Revis, arguably the best cover corner in the NFL, since their season ended against the Colts in the AFC championship game. Earlier in the offseason, rumors circulated about a possible trade for the Raiders' Nnamdi Asomugha, arguably the second-best corner in the game.
