New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell have had their disagreements in the past, but Johnson still trusts Goodell, The New York Times reports.
Johnson and Goodell's most recent scuffle involved a coin-flip that took place to determine whether the Jets or Giants would host the first game at the teams' new stadium. The Giants won the toss, and Johnson criticized the decision because neither team had representatives present for the coin-flip.
"An NFL coin toss has a few fundamental elements that are missing here, most notably the presence of the teams involved," Johnson told the Times. "That's how it's always done in the league, whether it's determining the order of the draft or deciding who's going to kick off the game."
Johnson criticized the coin-flip process, but says he never meant to attack Goodell's integrity.
"He and I just disagree, and we have disagreed in the past and probably in the future as well," Johnson said. "I never directed anything towards Roger. Just the process we were talking about, not Roger."
Johnson does not feel his comments will affect the New York teams' bid to host the 2014 Super Bowl.
"It's for two teams, in an important media market," Johnson said. "Hopefully, the owners will agree on the merits that it is something worth doing. I don't think one has anything to do with the other."
NFL owners could punish Johnson for his comments at this week's NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla.
