Mike Lowell Swings in Batting Cage for First Time This Year

Mike Lowell Swings in Batting Cage for First Time This Year For the first time since undergoing offseason thumb surgery, Mike Lowell took his first cuts in the cage on Monday morning in Fort Myers.

Lowell looked good, showing no ill effects from the surgery, but Terry Francona remained cautiously optimistic.

“I don’t think we can put a timetable on [a return to normal activity] yet,” Francona said. “I just don’t think it’s going to be in the next five, six days. I don’t think that’s realistic. I’m not sure that’s in his best interest.”
