The next time President Barack Obama and Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper meet, the drinks will be on Obama.
The two leaders made a friendly wager on Sunday's Olympic hockey title matchup. Riding on the game, other than a gold medal and bragging rights, was a case of beer, according to multiple sources.
If the U.S. had beaten Canada, Harper would have owed Obama 24 bottles of Molson Canadian beer. But after Team Canada's 3-2 overtime win over the U.S., Obama will be sending his neighbor to the north a case of Yuengling.
Obama and Harper chose brews rooted in each nation's history. Molson, the supplier of the Vancouver Olympics, is Canada's oldest brewery. Yuengling, out of Pennsylvania, is the oldest U.S. brewery.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs also will be paying up to his Canadian counterpart, Dimitri Soudas, Fox News reports. Gibbs made a double-or-nothing bet with Soudas following the U.S. women’s loss to Canada last week and now will have to wear a Team Canada jersey on camera in an upcoming briefing.
