Projected First-Round Pick Ricky Sapp Works Out for Patriots

Projected First-Round Pick Ricky Sapp Works Out for Patriots When it comes to the NFL draft, it’s anyone’s guess as to who the Patriots might take in the first round. One player that will certainly be in the discussion is Clemson defensive end Ricky Sapp.

On Tuesday, the projected first-rounder worked out for the Pats for six hours in South Carolina. Sapp discussed the workout in his latest draft-diary entry for the Orangeburg (S.C.) Times and Democrat, his hometown newspaper.

"The New England Patriots are a very private organizaton, our workout was private and extremely long. I started around 9 that morning and did not finish until 3 that afternoon.

“But the good thing about all that was … I think they liked me even more after our private workout. I got great feedback from the coach that was there, which really motivated me!“

Sapp, who’s 6-foot-4 and 252 pounds, would be a good fit for the Pats because he’d be able to play outside linebacker in Bill Belichick’s 3-4 scheme, according to Albert Breer of the Boston Globe.

Sapp was a second-team all-ACC selection this past season after registering career highs in tackles (60), tackles for a loss (15) and sacks (5).
