The Texas Rangers made the deal with the Red Sox in December because they wanted Mike Lowell. Three months later, they still do.
The team is still in search of a backup corner infielder, and according to ESPN.com, "Rangers scouts … keep coming back to Boston’s Mike Lowell." The report adds that the "Rangers believe they can still basically get Lowell for the player they were willing to give up over the winter, Max Ramirez."
"Because nobody is trying to seize the opportunity, it makes it difficult," manager Ron Washington told the Web site, regarding the lack of emergence from Ramirez or anyone else this spring.
In 25 at-bats this spring, Ramirez, 25, is hitting .269 with two doubles and three RBIs. Meanwhile, Lowell has been limited for the Red Sox as he recovers from offseason thumb surgery. He is 1-for-10, and he most recently fouled a ball off his leg and had to leave Friday's game early. He is expected to return to the Red Sox either Monday or Tuesday.
