'The Buzz' Breaks Down the New England Pond Hockey Classic Bruins fans were treated to the Winter Classic at Fenway Park earlier this year, but the New England Pond Hockey Classic allows hockey players to actually compete in outdoor hockey.

Tournament director Scott Crowder understands New England hockey fans truly love the game.

“The reason I wanted to do it is there’s a passionate hockey fan base in New England,” Scott Crowder said. “This is pretty much in their backyard.”

Crowder’s brother, Bruce, played with the Bruins from 1981-84. Bruce Crowder enjoys the outdoor game as much as playing in the NHL.

“I think it’s really more of a patient game,” Bruce Crowder said. “It’s really about the comeraderie.”
