Tony Barbee Accepts Auburn Job, Will Face Mentor John Calipari in SEC Tony Barbee worked from 2000-06 under John Calipari at the University of Memphis, a period in which the Tigers averaged nearly 25 wins per season.

Barbee turned that success into a head coaching position at the University of Texas El Paso for four seasons. Now, Barbee is heading back to the SEC, as he accepted a job as head coach of the Auburn Tigers. Starting next year, he’ll be squaring off with Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats.
