The WNBA's Phoenix Mercury hope an all-male practice squad will help them repeat as WNBA champions this season.

According to AZCentral.com, the Mercury will hold tryouts for a 15-person all-male practice squad that will scrimmage and train with the team.

The team states that any male basketball players age 18 and older will be allowed to participate and try out.

"I encourage any man who thinks he is on the same level or even thinks he can outplay the women from the Mercury to put his skills to the test and try out for the practice team," Mercury head coach Corey Gaines said. "The men who are able to stay on pace at the tryouts will definitely be helpful to my players."

Gaines, assistant coach Bridget Pettis and Mercury general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale will judge the tryouts based on players' skills in basketball drills and full-court scrimmages.
