As Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo embarks on a search for a replacement for men’s basketball coach Al Skinner, who served at the Heights for 13 years, he discussed the past and the future with NESN’s Jayme Parker.
DeFilippo said that one particular event didn’t trigger Skinner’s dismissal; it was simply time for a change in Chestnut Hill.
“I do want to say this: I want to thank Al Skinner,” the AD said on Friday’s edition of SportsDesk. “He is a wonderful, wonderful man, he’s a heck of a basketball coach, he did a wonderful job for us at Boston College and I really respect and show him a lot of gratitude for the time he put in here.”
But why dismiss Skinner now, with three years still remaining on the contract extension he signed not too long ago?
“You do what you think is best for all concerned, and you make decisions,” DeFilippo said.
