DETROIT — Saturday’s national championship should be exciting for everyone but the goalies.
Boston College and Wisconsin have two of the most prolific offenses in the country, and they’ve got a chance to put up a football score at Ford Field.
“They’ve been scoring a ton of goals, and we have been, too,” BC sophomore forward Jimmy Hayes said Friday morning. “I think it’s going to be a great game. The speed, it’s going to be very fast paced. I think it’s going to be great for our game.”
Wisconsin (4.07 goals per game) has the second-ranked scoring offense in the country, and BC (4.05) is third. Each team has posted at least six goals 11 times this season, including their victories in Thursday’s national semifinals. The Badgers smoked RIT 8-1, and the Eagles steamrolled Miami 7-1.
“Obviously, [RIT goalie Jared] DeMichiel has been playing great, and [Wisconsin] put up eight [goals] on them [Thursday], which says a lot about their offense,” BC goalie John Muse said. “Throughout the whole season, they’ve had a great offense, and it will be a challenge for us.”
Boston College has been embarrassing opposing goalies during its 12-game unbeaten streak (11-0-1), averaging 5.17 goals per contest. If the Eagles and Badgers remain on course, the national championship figures to be an all-time great.
“They’re a great team,” BC senior forward Matt Price said. “You don’t go into any national championship game expecting anything else. For us, we just stick to what we’ve been doing all year, stick to our guns, focus on playing our game and the rest takes care of itself.”
