While most 39-year-olds in the NHL spend much of their careers bouncing from team to team, Modano has been a star since 1989 — first in Minnesota, and then in Dallas when the team moved for the 1993 season.
On Thursday night, Modano was emotional as he played what could have been his final home game in the NHL. The veteran fought off tears when the crowd gave him a resounding ovation before tying the game with less than two minutes to play. The fans cheered even louder when he scored in a shootout.
If it was indeed the end, there was no better way to go out.

Bruins fans are fed up with a lot of things this season. Dennis Wideman may be at the top of that list. They let him know how the felt on Thursday night by booing him whenever he touched the puck — hardly the way a home crowd typically treats its player, but this season has been far from typical.
In any case, Wideman responded by scoring the game-winning goal. One fan thinks the crowd may be onto something.
