Orioles Hall of Famer Jim Palmer Scouts Rookie Phenom Brian Matusz

Orioles Hall of Famer Jim Palmer Scouts Rookie Phenom Brian Matusz Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer, now a Baltimore Orioles broadcaster, stopped by Saturday’s edition of Red Sox GameDay Live to talk about the Orioles and their young left-hander, Brian Matusz.

“A year and a half ago, [Matusz] was going to the University of San Diego,” Palmer indicated about the rookie fireballer. “He’s going to win a lot of games because he’s got a great mound presence.”

Matusz, according to Palmer, has a two-seam fastball, slider and a changeup he can throw in any count. He believes Matusz will be one of the premier starters in the league moving forward and will be tough to beat.
