In an effort to bolster their pass rush, the Patriots have selected University of Florida defensive lineman Jermaine Cunningham with the 53rd overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Cunningham started 38 of 45 games during his career as a Gator, recording 152 tackles and 19 1/2 sacks while playing alongside fellow Day Two draft pick, Carlos Dunlap.

The 6-foot-3, 252-pound Cunningham was named to the All-SEC second team for his efforts in the 2009 season — an impressive accomplishment given the number of talented defensive players in the conference.

Cunningham was an extremely productive pass rusher despite being undersized and smaller than most of the left tackles he squared off against while at Florida.
