One of the Tanguay and Zolak midday hosts was cut from 98.5 The Sports Hub on Friday.

According to Boston.com, 98.5 The Sports Hub will replace Gary Tanguay with former Comcast SportsNet New England regular Andy Gresh. The announcement comes one day after Fred Toettcher and Rich Shertenlieb, co-hosts of 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich show, signed contract extensions with the radio station.

An on-air staffer broke the news broke via Twitter at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday.

"Gary Tanguay is no longer co-hosting the midday show at the Sports Hub. Gresh will take his place," the staffer said via Twitter.

The tweet was later deleted.

The Tanguay and Zo show posted a significantly lower Arbitron rating, the leading measurement in collecting listener data on U.S. radio audiences, compared to other shows on the station. Gresh, a former ESPN Radio host, will replace Tanguay and co-host the show with former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak.

In addition to co-hosting Tanguay and Zo, Tanguay anchors Comcast SportsNet's Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight, and is involved with the network's Celtics pre- and postgame shows.

It is unknown how Tanguay's release will affect Patriots programming on the station next season. Tanguay has hosted pre- and postgame programming for Patriots games since July 2004.

Tanguay made no mention of his departure on Friday's show, and may not have known before the broadcast, Boston.com reports.

Neither Tanguay nor program director Mike Thomas have commented on the announcement.
