His approach shot came up short, and, as he did so often throughout his round, he knocked his putt close and punched in the par putt.
He finishes at 6-under through two rounds after a 70 on Friday.
3:50 p.m.: The final drive of Tiger's day is another beauty. Can he finish with a bird?
3:43 p.m.: Ladies and gentlemen, Tiger Woods is kind of scary right now.
He launched his second shot from the left rough onto the 17th onto the green and debuted a new "in the zone" face. It had shades of Kobe Bryant in the NBA Finals last June.
He drilled it to within 10 feet of the hole, but he missed the birdie putt. Some missed putts might come back to bite him, but his play has been so outstanding, it's made up for it thus far.
3:31 p.m.: That golden opportunity on 16 just went by the wayside, as Woods' putt stayed above the hole. He took his par to 17.
3:19 p.m.: Tiger is on an absolute roll right now. He just put his 16th tee shot about five feet from the pin.
It seems to just be a matter of minutes before Woods drops to 7-under.
3:16 p.m.: Woods put a sturdy stroke on that putt and drained it. Perfection. That's two big putts on the back nine, and he's now at 6-under.
He trails only Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood, who are both 9-under.
3:14 p.m.: Woods' downhill chip was a slow roller, as he didn't want to risk chipping one into the lake. He's got about a 12-foot birdie putt.
3:09 p.m.: Woods is in good birdie position on the 15th after launching a 5-wood over the water and over the green. He's up on a hill behind the green of the par 5.
3:07 p.m.: Tiger's approach shot looked to be on line, but the green essentially rejected it.
As a result, Woods was left with a long birdie putt. He knocked it to within a few feet and banged in the par putt. A brutally efficient round of golf for Woods thus far.
2:47 p.m.: Another mash of a drive from Woods on 14.
2:33 p.m.: Tiger sunk the putt for birdie, bringing him to 5-under.
It'll be interesting to see if that one has a carryover effect.
2:32 p.m.: A long birdie putt upcoming for Tiger. He could really use one of these to get his putting game going for the weekend. He's not been bad by any means on the greens, but he hasn't been hitting long ones.
2:14 p.m.: Tiger let loose another huge drive on 12, but again, was left with a par.
Not that pars are bad here, but after his showing on Thursday, expectations were running a bit high. Realistically, a round of even par would still be impressive.
2:07 p.m.: Lee Westwood has jumped to the top of the leaderboard.
1:59 p.m.: Ho-hum, another par for Tiger.
1:42 p.m.: Another bomb unleashed from the tee box, this one on the 11th.
1:36 p.m.: Wow. Tiger almost drains the putt, but the ball just sits on the edge of the cup. He taps in for par.
1:30 p.m.: Not a good shot for Tiger there, as he slipped during his swing. He's about 30 feet away from a birdie. Tough break.
1:26 p.m.: Tiger's facing a tough approach shot here, with the pin hugging the right side of the green, with a bunker just next to it. He's about 150 yards out.
1:20 p.m.: Woods just launched a bomb down the 10th fairway. Quite the way to kick off the back nine. I'm calling the birdie.
1:12 p.m.: Tiger just made an excellent putt on the ninth to set up a tap-in for par. The birdie putt was about 60 feet, uphill, and he curled it masterfully toward the cup. That's a par 36 for the front nine.
1:01 p.m.: Tiger just keeps on chugging along. After a mammoth drive off the eighth tee, Woods was forced to two-putt from 60 feet uphill and through the slope just to save par. It's not yesterday's eagle on the scorecard, but Freddy Couples' bogey means Eldrick is just two strokes back of the triumvirate currently sitting at 6-under par.
12:34 p.m.: Woods is cruising along, as he just finished up a par on the seventh hole.
Up next is the eighth hole, which Woods eagled on Thursday. The eighth kickstarted yesterday's round, let's see what it brings today.
12:18 p.m.: Another par for Tiger, who is at 4-under. Fred Couples still holds the lead at 7-under, with Ricky Barnes hot on his tail, one stroke behind.
Meanwhile, Woods' drive on the seventh is again errant. He's lacking the precision he had in Thursday's opening round.
12:04 p.m.: Tiger found some trouble on the fifth, with his tee shot landing in the fairway bunker. He got out of it to save par.
11:47 a.m.: That putt stayed a little straighter than Woods thought it would, as it rolled a few feet past the hole. Woods tapped in the bogey and is now even for the day.
11:43 a.m.: Pretty nice shot from Woods there, as he got it to about eight feet from the hole.
11:37 a.m.: With a hole location on the front side of the fourth green, Woods pulled his tee shot on the par 3 well wide of the green.
On the plus side, the shot was so wide that it avoided the bunker. On the down side, well, he's got to chip over a bunker and get it up and down to save par.
11:32 a.m.: No Palmer magic. Woods pars the third.
11:25 a.m.: Tiger reached the third green in two shots, but his birdie putt would require some Arnold Palmer magic.

11:15 a.m.: Draino. Woods hits the birdie putt and is now 5-under.

11:14 a.m.: Tiger chipped it to within a few feet of the hole, with a birdie putt upcoming.
11:11 a.m.: Woods is in good position to birdie the second, as he's facing a chip from behind the green for his third shot.
10:54 a.m.: Woods got himself out of trouble on the first hole, and he was able to save par. With Fred Couples at a ridiculous 7-under already, Woods can't afford too many bogeys.
10:42 a.m.: Woods launches his opening tee shot into a wooded area, a pretty brutal start to day 2. After finishing his follow through, Woods reached to his eye, so he might have been affected on that one.
In any case, the day is under way for the world's No. 1 golfer.
10:41 a.m.: Woods is now on the first tee, ready to get his second round started.
He'll be playing with K.J. Choi and Matt Kuchar again.
10:33 a.m.: Tiger's finishing up his bunker shots. I'm guessing his tee time has been pushed back a few minutes.
9:43 a.m.: Not many people would have guessed Tiger would perform so well in his first round of professional golf since October, but, well, that's why he's Tiger.
Woods dropped a pair of eagles on his way to finishing at 4-under, just two strokes back of Tom Watson.
Watson himself is the more surprising story, as the 60-year-old turned in the best Augusta scorecard of his life.
