Rask's 1.97 GAA and .931 save percentage both edged out Buffalo's Ryan Miller for the top marks in the league.
The 23-year-old made his NHL debut in the 2007-08 season but took two years to stick with the team for an entire season. But this 2009-10 campaign was one to remember for Rask as he overtook Tim Thomas, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, for the starting gig and propelled the Bruins to the playoffs where they hold a commanding 3-1 first-round series lead over the Buffalo Sabres.
Rask has been among the top goaltenders in the playoffs so far and has a burgeoning career in front of him. But the Finn's career trophy case will not include the Calder Trophy. Getting the honors as finalists this season are Colorado center Matt Duchene,
Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard and Buffalo defenseman Tyler Myers.
Duchene led all rookies with scoring in 55 points while sharing the goal-scoring title with the Islanders' John Tavares at 24 lamplighters. Howard posted a 37-15-10 record with a 2.26 GAA and .924 save percentage for the second-place Red Wings. Myers led the Sabres in ice time and ranked fifth on the team in points.
The winner will be announced June 23 in Las Vegas at the NHL awards show.
Rask was drafted 21st overall in the 2005 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs and was later traded to Boston for fellow goaltender Andrew Raycroft.
