Actor Will Ferrell Makes Professional Pitching Debut in Round Rock, Texas Actor Will Ferrell can add another name to his long list of aliases.

Previously recognized as Frank “The Tank” Ricard, Chazz Reinhold and Buddy the Elf — as well as many, many other hilarious personalities — Ferrell can now add the name Billy Ray “Rojo” Johnson to his cast of characters.

On Thursday night in Texas, Ferrell made his professional pitching debut for the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros:

“The Round Rock Express have acquired Billy Ray ‘Rojo’ Johnson… Johnson, who was born in East Texas but was raised in Venezuela, recently had his prison sentence commuted. He served time for running a smuggling ring that imported rare and illegal species of reptiles into the United States from South America during the mid-to-late 1990s.”

The debut was short-lived as he was ejected after firing a heater behind the back of the first batter he faced. But Rojo seemed pretty fired up after the game, saying “Mentally, I feel like I have the strength of 10 men, after that. Nashville showed a lot of stuff tonight. They’ve got a lot of moxie.”

“I just had no idea where the ball was going. I was trying to throw the ball too hard.”

Comment of the day

So this NESN.com reader — who has obviously never seen a Josh Beckett postgame interview — is saying Beckett’s problem is mental? I know one thing: I’m not going to be the one to tell the fiery righty.

“Seems like a sports pyschologist is in order here. What I saw had
nothing to do with not knowing where the pitches were going. This was a
complete melt down. The surly Beckett of 2007 would never have allowed
something like this to happen to him!! What’s wrong with this guy???”
