Clay Buchholz Gets Comfortable, Quiets Rays’ Bats

Clay Buchholz Gets Comfortable, Quiets Rays' Bats Terry Francona
couldn’t have been happier with how Clay Buchholz‘s night went on Monday.

“He not only collected himself, but made great pitches,” Francona told Heidi Watney on Red Sox Extra Innings. “Once he got through the first couple innings, he got real comfortable.”

Francona was just as happy to see Buchholz dominate the Rays as he was to see the offense knock out Wade Davis in the fourth inning. The more depleted the bullpen of MLB’s best team, the better.

Francona also touched on Victor Martinez, who left the game with a bruise on his foot. “The good news is the X-rays were negative,” Francona said. “I think we all felt like we maybe dodged the bullet.”

Martinez isn’t expected to catch on Tuesday, but could do so in an emergency, so the team will not recall a catcher to serve as a backup.

The skipper also expressed regret that Darnell McDonald will be designated for assignment to make room for the returning Mike Cameron. Click on the video below to see his take on the move.
