Lefty reliever Alan Embree is switching socks as the former Red Sox reliever, who was designated for assignment earlier this month, is heading to the White Sox.

Embree has agreed to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Charlotte, according MLB.com's Scott Merkin.

Embree elected free agency after he cleared waivers following his designation. This isn't the first time Embree has donned the ChiSox uni, as he pitched 34 innings for Chicago's AL representatives back in 2001.

The 40-year-old veteran pitched just 7 1/3 innings for Pawtucket this spring. Last season, he put up a 5.84 ERA in 24 2/3 innings for the Rockies before a line drive fractured his tibia and ended his campaign.
